Half Marathon

It's rare that I will post about myself, but here is a post that I am proud of.

It was my New Year's resolution to run the Capital City Half Marathon. I have been through a lot in the past year with my body. It had been pushed to the extremes during my twin pregnancy, so I decided to push it to another extreme.

Last night, in the eleventh hour, I realized that I should probably check out the race details online. I found out that I should have picked up my race packet at Fleet Feet in Lewis Center. It was 5 pm when I realized this & they closed at 6. Great.

Jon had company over, so I loaded the twins in the minivan & picked up my packet. Luckily, a worker took pity on me & got everything for me so that I didn't have to maneuver the twin stroller in the narrow aisles. He laughed when he looked at my assigned number.

During the race, a man on the sidelines yelled out, "Hey four sixes! That's a special number right there!"

So, this morning, I left the house around 6:45 for the 8:00 race. Jon snapped this pic before I left. They gave us great shirts this year, so I decided to actually wear mine this time. I've never worn a race shirt during a race before.

I found my pace-marker balloons. I would have made the 2:15 time, had it not actually taken 5 whole minutes for me to get through the start line, due to a lot of bottle-necking. We looked like cattle.

The rain clouds were moving in. It started to rain during my mile 4 & I was definitely soaked by the end of the race.

The finish line is in sight!

I think my time is around 2:18:54. I met my goal of 2:20! I believe Mayor Coleman was making fun of me for taking this pic. "You cross the finish line and THEN you take the picture!"

And here I am with my medal!
